2008 Archery Bull Elk/Buck DeerTo many big game hunters, nothing is more thrilling than hunting trophy bull elk in rut. The excitement of a huge bugling bull so close that you can smell his musky scent can make the hairs stand up on your neck. Our expert guides are some of the best in the business, and boast a near 100% shooting opportunity. They have the unique ability to consistently call in big bulls for good, close shots. In fact, during the 2004 season a 400 class bull was called in to within 7 yards of a waiting archer.
Archery elk season starts the last week of August and runs through the middle of September. The mountain foliage is beautiful and the temperatures are moderate at this time of year. Since bulls are in full rut at this time, they are very vocal and very responsive to calls. In short, they tell us where they are and we go to them. Early preseason scouting by our seasoned guides dramatically increases your odds of harvesting a trophy bull.
Archery hunters should be in average physical condition and be ready to hunt hard. Although many archery kills occur under 25 yards, a hunter’s success depends on their ability to be proficient on uneven terrain out to 40 yards or more.
Because of overlapping archery elk and mule deer seasons, its possible to hunt both during the same trip. This is an excellent opportunity and a great buy. All archery elk hunts/combination hunts consist of 5 full days of hunting. Guests usually check in on Friday and hunt Saturday through Wednesday.
