Although there is no guarantee of killing an animal, our guides have experienced a 90% success rate and near 100% shooting opportunity on our elk leases and open units with scores ranging from 280 to 379 Boone and Crocket. Most harvested bulls are 5x5 or 6x6 that average about 330. All of our elk leases and open units are capable of producing bulls over 350 with the largest shooting opportunity in 2004 being a 400 class bull during archery season.
The average mule deer harvested on our private leases and open units is a 22”-30” buck with the largest harvested being a 35” 9x9 scoring 215 Boone and Crocket points. Your chances for a successful hunt are greatly dependent upon your physical condition, your shooting ability, and as always with any hunting, the weather.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) biologists have done a great job of managing the overall elk herd and estimate the state’s elk population at about 60,000 animals. The average age of harvested bulls in the area that we hunt is an astounding 7 years old. This means that your chances of harvesting a big, mature, bull are very good.
The state’s deer herd is also managed to produce trophy mule deer with an estimated population of about 280,000 animals and a buck to doe ratio of 17/100. The Utah DWR estimates that there is enough habitat to support another 140,000 deer. The large availability of forage and rich minerals in the soil grows monster mule deer bucks.
